ChaChaChats: Makeup Artist Chelsea Reynolds

Updated: Mar 7

TCB: Welcome to The ChaCha Blog, Chelsea! Thank you so much for letting us feature you. To start things off, why don’t you tell everyone about yourself and what you do.

CR: Thank you for thinking of me! I am a certified makeup artist as well as an Assistant Business Manager for MAC Cosmetics. I’m originally from Southern California and moved to Nashville over two years ago with my fiancé.

TCB: That’s amazing. What inspired you to get into makeup and do it professionally?

CR: I worked in the music business for over eight years in music editing, licensing, music production, and marketing. Over the past few years I started freelancing while I was still working in music and realized I was my happiest whenever I was around or doing makeup. It allows me to not only be completely creative, but it also allows me to make people feel good about themselves.

TCB: How did you find your aesthetic and niche in an industry that seems to be growing so rapidly?

CR:  Having experience within the music business has opened up a lot of opportunities and connections that I wouldn’t of had otherwise. Artists I have met and professionals in the industry now reach out to me for makeup work. Rather than using social media and Youtube as a primary way to drive business, I focus on the personal connections I have developed over the years. In my opinion, word of mouth is still the most powerful way to drive business.

TCB: I definitely agree with that. What has been your biggest achievement in your career thus far?

CR: After working in the music business for so long and being fairly new to the makeup industry, I was offered a management position at one of the most prestigious cosmetic companies. I feel so lucky that I was given the opportunity to grow as an artist among some of the most successful leaders in the beauty industry.

TCB: What are you most excited about for the future of the cosmetics industry?

CR: Products and trends are constantly changing so there’s always something to look forward to in the beauty industry. I’m so excited to see the future collaborations between creative individuals and makeup brands. They inspire new audiences, product development, and application techniques that continue to further the industry.

TCB: What is something you hope to contribute to this industry that is becoming so widely populated on Youtube and social media? Your work on Instagram is fantastic and it really describes you as a person.

CR: I hope to inspire younger people to pursue their dreams like I did!

TCB: In true TCB nature, we have to keep it honest. What has been a struggle you have faced and how did you overcome it?

CR: The hardest thing is being able to stand out among so many creative and talented artists that are trying to make names for themselves. There’s so much content on social media and Youtube that I sometimes find myself struggling to stay true to my own style and artistry, rather than competing with what is already out there. Being passionate about your craft and standing out from the crowd is key to success.

TCB: Do you have a quote or mantra you live by? If so, what is it?

CR: “Everything happens for a reason.” No matter what struggles you may deal with along the way, every experience, connection, and decision is necessary to get you where you are today. As long as I stay focused and push myself creatively, there’s nothing I can’t achieve.

TCB: So true and so well put! Last but not least where can people find you to stay up-to-date on your beautiful work?

CR: You can learn more about me and see my full portfolio on my website www.chelsreymua.com and/or follow me on Instagram @chelsreymua! Thank you!
