Party Like A Graduate

Updated: Mar 9

*I am really happy to work with our sponsor, Basic Invite, today to share this information with you! All opinions are my own.*

Graduations are quickly approaching which brings such nostalgia for me. I remember my college graduation party like it was yesterday. As some of you may know, I went to the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising and I thought I was the coolest kid on the block. Must of been my partially shaved head, but I thought I was so edgy and cool which means my party had to be on brand and aesthetic, but of course.

My mom, bless her heart, is the most amazing hostess anyone has ever known and she was ALL into the planning. My playlist was something out of NYFW and my Jeffrey Campbells were slaying for the Gods, but that’s all I was focused on and I really wish I had done a better job at making sure all the details were concise. So, if you’re getting ready to start planning your graduation party, here’s my best advice.

DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT skimp on the invites! This is the first impression of what your day will hold. Invitations let your guests know what the theme is, what they can expect, and to be honest, your choice of invites is something others really pay attention to. So, how do you find the right invite that gives you everything you want? Basic Invite allows you the freedom to truly customize your invites with over 180 color options to choose from. Once you select the design of your preference, you are allowed to change the color on each element within that design, which I absolutely love.  Their invitations are seriously stunning and what sets them apart in my eyes, is that they are one of the few online stationary companies that allow customers to order a printed sample. Two of my favorite graduation invites they have include the chevron graduation invitations and the vintage graduation invitations. Next up is the food. Now, you don’t have to go overboard and spend a ton of money on food, but take into consideration some people may have dietary restrictions. Always make sure to have a vegan/vegetarian option and a gluten free option. Trust me, this will go a long way in making your guests feel appreciated and special. From someone who has food sensitivities and allergies, it is really unfortunate to go to an event and not be able to eat ANYTHING.

Music! I am ALL for a great playlist. What is the vibe and theme of your day? Personally, I love Apple Music or Spotify playlists based on “mood”. It’s so much easier than curating your own, well for me at least. Take into consideration the different age groups at your party as well. If Grandma and Grandpa are inviting their entire ping pong team, then you may not want to be blasting Busta Rhymes the entire day. If you have talented friends, even better! Have a jam session!

Visually setting the theme is my favorite part of planning a party and girl, it does NOT have to be expensive! My entire baby shower was DIY so you can totally do it! Incorporate your themed colors in paper straws, napkins, some confetti on the table tops, and flowers. You do not need to go overboard. Less is more! Utilize Pinterest and go be Martha Stewart on a major budget!

Thank You’s

Last but not least, ALWAYS send thank you cards. Regardless if a gift was involved or not, thank your guests for their attendance and supporting you and your journey! Not only is it the right thing to do, but it is super classy and sets you up as a full functioning adult!

Girl, you did it! Congratulations! Now, go conquer the world…I mean it!
